Battery safety

Rechargeable hand warmers run on lithium-ion batteries, like phones. Treated sensibly, they are safe. These habits keep them that way:

  • Charge with the included cable and a standard USB adapter, on a hard surface, away from bedding and anything flammable.
  • Do not cover a warmer while it charges or leave it charging unattended for long periods.
  • Do not use a warmer that is swollen, cracked, leaking or unusually hot. Stop using it and contact us.
  • Keep warmers out of reach of young children and pets. Do not let children use them unsupervised.
  • Do not hold a warmer against bare skin for long periods, and never use one while sleeping. People with reduced sensation, such as some people with diabetes, should take extra care.
  • Keep them dry. Do not submerge them or charge them when wet.
  • For flights, pack them in carry-on bags, switched off. Do not put them in checked luggage.
  • For long-term storage over summer, charge to about half and keep them somewhere cool and dry. Top them up every few months.
  • Recycle worn-out warmers at a battery or electronics recycling drop-off, not in household trash.
